Description

Earn a university credential while participating in your learning vacation at the Churchhill Northern Studies Centre! You’ll learn how to make scientifically-valid field observations of polar bears, receive a University of Saskatchewan Continuing Education Digital Badge, and your enrolment will support your instructor’s research program in polar bear-human interactions. Plus, you’ll receive a beaded polar bear badge crafted by a local artist!

Learner Outcomes

By the end of the learning vacation, participants will:

  1. understand the fundamentals of polar bear ecology and behaviour
  1. be aware of how to prevent polar bear-human conflicts at the CNSC and around Churchill more generally
  1. be able to think critically about competing and politicized statements on polar bears 
  1. be able to assign a fatness index score to polar bears seen in the field
  1. be able to identify the sex and relative age of polar bears seen in the field (with reasonable confidence)
