CMEP 02O - Physician Billing
Description
The Saskatchewan Ministry of Health, Medical Services Branch (MSB), in collaboration with the Saskatchewan Medical Association (SMA) and the Division of Continuing Medical Education (CME), College of Medicine, University of Saskatchewan, have partnered to develop the Physician Billing Online Course. This course provides physicians, medical office assistants, and other healthcare professionals with foundational knowledge and practical tools to navigate the Physician Payment Schedule, submit accurate claims, avoid common billing errors, and maintain compliance with billing requirements in Saskatchewan.
Overall Course Objectives
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
- Explain the professional, legal, and ethical obligations associated with billing.
- Analyze the fundamental aspects of the Physician Payment Schedule, including referenced regulations, definitions, billing requirements, and service code descriptors.
- Describe the core principles underpinning documentation requirements.
- Apply service codes to actual billing scenarios.
- Demonstrate the process of submitting claims, reconciling rejected and recovered claims, and navigating the appeal process.
