Course Description

USask Continuing Pharmacy Education (USask CPE) program has worked with the SK HIV Collaborative and the SK Prevention Institute to create an accredited online course providing an overview of PrEP: Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis for HIV. This course gives healthcare professionals insight into prescribing and monitoring PrEP in Saskatchewan.

 Saskatchewan residents can use the code SKPHAR to register for this course for free.

Learner Outcomes

At the end of this course you will be able to: 

  1. Identify ways in which stigma affects access to PrEP and consider how healthcare providers can reduce stigma in their own thinking and practices. 

  1. Compare the basic demographics for HIV is Saskatchewan (SK) versus those for Canada. 

  1. Explain the concept of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and understand the benefit of PrEP. 

  1. Explain PrEP goals of therapy and tools available to help identify clients at increased risk of HIC acquisition. 

  1. Describe two medications used for PrEP including their indication, regimens of therapy, contraindications, and adverse reactions. 

  1. Identify baseline and follow-up investigations required for PrEP. 

  1. Explain necessary PrEP education to provide to clients. 

  1. Understand the importance of adherence, and identify strategies to improve adherence.
