UCPE 01M - Advanced Harm Reduction and Opioid Agonist Therapy (OAT)

This course includes an online course and a recorded, virtual workshop. Completion of the Online Course fulfills SCPP requirements. Registrants are not required to complete the virtual workshop.

Learner Outcomes
By the end of this workshop, learners will be able to:
ONLINE COURSE
- Explain opioid use disorder (OUD) and the tools used to support diagnosis and evaluate withdrawal.
- Describe examples of community psychosocial support services for patients with OUD.
- Explain OUD treatment recommendations, pharmacology, and clinical considerations.
- Define trauma-informed care and identify strategies used to support culturally safe pharmacy practice.
- Recognize standard requirements for dispensing OAT in Saskatchewan.
- Identify valid prescriptions for OAT in Saskatchewan.
VIRTUAL LIVE WORKSHOP
- Reflect on presenters’ lived experiences with substance use disorder (SUD) and recovery, to further support others living with SUD.
- Consider the impact of culture, trauma, and stigma on SUD.
- Describe transitions in care and community resources for people with SUD.
- Understand and identify crystal methamphetamine usage and available resources in Saskatchewan.
- Integrate OAT into pharmacy practice, including considerations for special populations, workflow, claim submissions, documentation, and strategies for suspected misuse or re-direction of OAT.
- Discuss approaches to facilitate healthcare provider and pharmacy team communication and collaborative care.
